Transcription

Transcription or dictation is a written form of verbal content which is recorded in audio files having different formats. These audio files are played in a software and typed through either a foot paddle or keyboard with number of keys used to play, stop, and rewind and forward the dictation files while typing the content of the dictation or transcription.

For example, a doctor, engineer or a politician gave an speech in Italian, Chinese, Urdu or Hindi. Then this speech will be recorded with the help of audio recorder. A native transcriber of that particular language will save the file in picky software. He or she will listen to the sentences or a few words according to his or her listening and remembering capacity and then he or she will type those sentences.

So the whole process from recording the audio to typing the content is known as transcription. Normally, a transcriber or transcriptionist listens to the audios through headphone to avoid background noise.
